Eco-district, Rives de Seine in Boulogne-Billancourt, a pioneer to follow
An eco-district is an urban development project aiming to integrate sustainable development objectives (social, economic, and environmental) and reduce its ecological footprint.
The EcoQuartier label takes into account all environmental issues to design and manage cities that offer their residents a lifestyle that meets the challenges of living together, climate, and biodiversity.
The reference framework of the label is structured around four dimensions:
Dimension 1, Approach and process, focuses on the project's design with the specificities of the territory, to implement governance while involving the neighborhood residents.
Dimension 2, Living environment and uses, aims to ensure a living environment conducive to well-being and health, combining urban, landscape, and architectural quality.
Dimension 3, Territorial development, optimizes local sectors and short circuits, and promotes sustainable and active mobility.
Dimension 4, Environment and climate, contributes to mitigating climate change by favoring renewable energies and preserving the water resource.
A model to follow, the Trapèze district
Part of the Seguin-Rives de Seine operation (former Renault factories) in Boulogne-Billancourt, it received the national EcoQuartier Label trophy in 2013, being one of the first in France to hold this label for its commitments to sustainable development. A successful example of conversion.
This district has an exemplary heat and cold network as it uses 65% renewable energies, such as the energy recovery of household waste and geothermal energy, which allows taking advantage of the ground's temperature to recharge the cold resource in winter to air-condition in summer (summer comfort) and recharge the hot resource in summer to meet winter heating needs.
The Trapèze is also a pioneer in preserving, managing, and restoring the water resource. Indeed, the rainwater treatment is innovative as it passes through the heart of islands and towards the Billancourt park via landscaped swales.
The planted islands, vegetation on the roofs of each building, the green wall, and the 7-hectare park play an essential role in preserving and restoring soils, biodiversity, and natural environments.
Since obtaining the EcoQuartier label in 2013, the Trapèze has received the EcoQuartier Vécu label in 2023, certifying its ten years of experience and commitment.
