A self-sufficient home brings together everything that makes a home truly sustainable: high [energy efficiency] with a DPE A, B or C rating, electricity from [solar panels], [eco-friendly heating] from a heat pump, geothermal or wood, and [water self-sufficiency] from a well, borehole or spring. Sun, air, earth, wood: everything runs on renewable energy. Passive houses, low-energy builds or energy-positive homes, renovated farmhouses or contemporary villas: depending on the property, self-sufficiency is partial or complete.
Independence, every day
Few bills, or none at all, a home that produces what it uses, warm in winter and cool in summer without energy-hungry air conditioning. Comfort that holds steady whatever happens to energy prices, a freer way of life, and a rare, sought-after property that holds its value.
Frequently asked questions
What is a self-sufficient home?
It’s a home that produces much of what it needs itself, its electricity, heat and water, using renewable energy. Well insulated, it uses little energy and gains real independence.
Can a home be 100% self-sufficient?
Yes. Electricity, heat, water: some homes produce it all themselves and live in complete independence. Others are getting there, and every step towards self-sufficiency means more freedom.
Does a self-sufficient home stay cool in summer?
Yes. High-performance insulation, materials with strong thermal mass and often a reversible heat pump keep it pleasant even at the height of summer. And with solar panels, it’s the sun that powers the cooling.
Self-sufficient, passive or energy-positive: what’s the difference?
A passive house needs very little heating thanks to its insulation. An energy-positive home produces more energy than it uses. A self-sufficient home goes further by also covering its water and heat.
How much can you save with a self-sufficient home?
Electricity, heating, water: bills shrink and can become almost nothing, depending on the level of self-sufficiency. Surplus electricity can even be sold.
